CFB | Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-1) at Northwestern Wildcats (3-3)

The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Northwestern Wildcats will play Saturday night at Ryan Field.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have had two weeks to recover from their loss to the Michigan State Spartans and hope to get back on track here. Nebraska is averaging 6.2 yards per carry and is one of the top rushing teams in the country led by Ameer Abdullah, who has 878 yards and 10 touchdowns. Tommy Armstrong Jr. is completing 51.9 percent of his passes for 10 touchdowns and five interceptions, and he’s second on the Cornhuskers with 427 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Nebraska has 17 running plays of 20 or more yards and has won nine straight games when topping 200 rushing yards. Jordan Westerkamp and Kenny Bell have combined for 47 receptions, 894 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are allowing 20.3 points, 346.7 yards, and they’ve forced 10 turnovers and 12 sacks. Nate Gerry leads Nebraska with 37 tackles and Greg McMullen has 5.5 tackles for loss.

The Northwestern Wildcats need a win here to have any chance of remaining in the Big Ten hunt. Northwestern is a team that relies heavily on defense, as it’s allowing 17.5 points, 358.8 yards, and has forced 13 turnovers and 14 sacks. Northwestern has won 11 of its last 15 games when holding a team under 400 yards. Chi Chi Ariguzo leads Northwestern with 51 tackles and Dean Lowry has five tackles for loss. Offensively, Trevor Siemian is completing 58.9 percent of his passes for four touchdowns and five interceptions. Northwestern has five different players with double-digit receptions and Dan Vitale leads Northwestern with 260 receiving yards. Freshman running back Justin Jackson leads Northwestern with 502 rushing yards and has rushed for 268 yards in his last two games.

The Cornhuskers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Wildcats are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 conference games and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games overall.

If you have spent the last two seasons fading Northwestern, you would be sitting on a fortune. Nebraska is coming off a bye and is the overall better team on both sides of the ball. Give me the Cornhuskers by double digits.
