The Line: Notre Dame Fighting Irish -3 -- Over/Under:
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish look for a big win against the visiting USC Trojans in week seven.
The Southern Cal Trojans will be looking to rediscover their offense following a 17-12 defeat to visiting Washington as a 17 point favorite. The USC defense was stout with just 299 yards allowed but the offense managed 346 yards and hurt themselves with three turnovers. The Trojans were solid on the ground behind Tre Madden’s 17 carry, 120 yard effort with Ronald Jones chipping in with 65 yards on eight totes with a touchdown. Quarterback Cody Kessler couldn’t get Southern Cal in to the end zone with his passing with 196 yards on 16-29 with a pair of interceptions with JuJu Smith being the only receiver of consequence with six catches for 82 yards.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish bounced back from a disappointing loss at Clemson to throttle visiting Navy 41-24 and improve to 5-1. The Fighting Irish didn’t stop the Midshipmen option but they controlled it with a 459-340 advantage in yardage while forcing three turnovers. DeShone Kizer gave the Irish a huge lift in the air by completing 22-30 for 281 yards with a touchdown and interception led by William Fuller’s five receptions for 80 yards and a score. CJ Prosise was a star for the Notre Dame attack with four catches for 56 yards combining with a game high 129 yards on the ground and three touchdowns.
The under is 5-0 in Trojans last 5 road games and is 4-0 in Trojans last 4 road games vs. a team with a winning home record while USC are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss. The Fighting Irish are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record while the over is 6-0 in Fighting Irish last 6 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game. The under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Notre Dame while the favorite is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 meetings. I’m going with Notre Dame and avoiding the controversy surrounding USC…
