The Line: Ohio Bobcats -- Over/Under:
The Akron Zips visit Peden Stadium looking to become Bowl eligible with a win versus the Ohio Bobcats in college football action on Tuesday.
The Akron Zips were thought to have a better then even chance of reaching the postseason before opening day but after three losses in a row the team needs a win just to become Bowl eligible. The Zips come off of a 38-28 defeat at the hands of visiting Bowling Green as a 10.5 point favorite as they led 374-323 in yards but saw the Falcons return a fumble for a score and then watch BGSU score the final ten points in an eleven second span. The Zips posted six turnovers as well so it’s surprising the game was even close. Akron QB Tyrell Goodman was 4-9 for 139 yards with a score and three interceptions with Tra’Von Chapman going 7-14 for 58 yards. Van Edwards Jr. led the Zips on the ground with 84 yards and a TD on 20 totes with DJ Jones totaling 66 yards on 13 carries while Jerome Lane caught 64 yard scoring strike.
The Ohio Bobcats are considered to be a grind it out squad in my mind but they have shown some offensive explosiveness at times. However, the Bobcats were lackluster in a 27-20 defeat at Central Michigan in a game they literally gave away with four turnovers despite holding a 357-286 edge in real estate. Bobcats quarterback Quinton Maxwell struggled through a 16-36 night for 208 yards and a TD and interception while rushing 21 times for a mere 56 yards. Dorian Brown gave Ohio some punch on the ground with 91 yards and a touchdown on only 12 touches. The Ohio receiving game was a three man nucleus with Sebastian Smith, Papi White and Jordan Reid combining for 14 catches and 192 yards.
The under is 4-0 in Akron last 4 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game and the under is 4-0 in Akron last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game while the under is 4-0 in Akron last 4 games following a ATS loss. The under is 4-0 in Ohio last 4 games following a straight up loss and the under is 5-0 in Ohio last 5 vs. a team with a losing record while the under is 5-0 in Ohio last 5 games following a ATS loss. The under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and the under is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings in Ohio while Akron are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Ohio.
