Virginia Tech vs. Ohio State
|Date & Time||Monday September 7, 2015, 8:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Virginia Tech +11 -- Over/Under: 53
The Ohio State Buckeyes and Virginia Tech Hokies play Monday night at Lane Stadium.
The Ohio State Buckeyes enter the season as the favorites to repeat as national champions with a ton of key guys returning. J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones both return at quarterback, a duo that produced 41 passing touchdowns. Michael Thomas and Corey Smith combined for more than 900 receiving yards and nine touchdowns while Nick Vannett had five touchdowns on 19 receptions. Ezekiel Elliott returns at running back after leading the way with 1,878 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. Defensively, Joshua Perry returns after leading OSU with 124 tackles, Darron Lee had 16.5 tackles for loss and Vonn Bell had six interceptions. Joey Bosa is suspended for this matchup.
The Virginia Tech Hokies have not missed a bowl game since 1992 but hope for a turnaround season under coach Frank Beamer. Michael Brewer returns at quarterback after completing 59.4 percent of his passes for 2,692 yards, 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Isaiah Ford and Bucky Hodges combined for more than 1,200 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns while Cam Phillips had 40 receptions as a freshman. J.C. Coleman returns at running back after leading the way with 533 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Deon Clarke returns at linebacker after racking up 74 tackles, Dadi Nicolas had 18 tackles for loss and Ken Ekanem had 10.5 sacks.
The Buckeyes are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Hokies are 13-27-1 ATS in their last 41 games on grass and 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 games in September.
The Buckeyes will be without a couple of key guys, including the best defensive lineman in the league in Joey Bosa. Also, Virginia Tech is one of the toughest places to play, especially at night. While OSU is easily the best team in the country, I have to take the points here.
