The Howard Bison hope to kick off their college football slate with a road upset of the Ohio Bobcats.

The Howard Bison went 7-4 last season for their first winning campaign since 2012. Howard outscored opponents 30-28 and these numbers should improve with several key players back. Dual threat quarterback Caylin Newton gave Howard 2,432 passing yards while running for 753 yards. The Bison return their two top receivers in Jequez Ezzard and Kyle Anthony so the passing game should be solid.

The Howard rushing attack might be a question mark because the offensive line needs bodies. The Bison defense has the opportunity to improve as well with seven starters coming back especially in the secondary which is loaded with playmakers.

The run first Ohio Bobcats were one of the more explosive offenses in the MAC in 2017 and many of those pieces return. Quarterback Nathan Rourke doesn’t light up the airways but he runs the ball well that gives Ohio several weapons in the backfield that also features AJ Ouellette.

When the Bobcats throw, Papi White, Andrew Meyer and Cameron Odom will see their share of balls.

Ohio has an experienced group of offensive linemen which will make the rushing attack productive once again. The Bobcats defense isn’t a shut down unit but they have to avoid shootouts to alleviate some of the burden on the offense. Ohio will be fine if the defensive line is able to gel.

Howard  are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games on fieldturf and Howard are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and Howard are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games. Ohio  are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and over is 5-1 in Ohio last 6 non-conference games and Ohio are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games in September.

The Bison defense struggled against the run in 2017 and guess what the Bobcats do and do well?

Ohio -30

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
