The Line: Ole Miss Rebels +20 -- Over/Under:
The #1 Alabama Crimson Tide and the Ole Miss Rebels meet in college football action from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium at Hollingsworth Field on Saturday evening.
The Alabama Crimson Tide will look to remain at the top of the college football rankings after improving to 2-0 with a 57-7 blowout win over Arkansas State in their last outing. Tua Tagovailoa threw for 228 yards and 4 touchdowns on 13 of 19 passing while Jalen Hurts completed 7 of 9 passes for 93 yards and 2 scores. Najee Harris racked up 135 yards and a touchdown on the ground while Damien Harries rushed for 61 yards. Jerry Jeudy caught a team-high 4 passes for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns while Devonta Smith, Henry Ruggs III, Irv Smith Jr. and Derek Kief each contributed a receiving score in the win. Defensively, Salvion Smith logged a pick-six while Alabama combined for a pair of sacks and Delonte Thompson racked up a team-high 6 tackles in the winning effort.
The Ole Miss Rebels will look to tighten up defensively after a 76-41 shootout win over Southern Illinois in their last outing. Jordan Ta’amu threw for 448 yards and 5 touchdowns on 23 of 33 passing, while Scottie Phillips rushed for 107 yards and 2 scores and Isaiah Woullard and Matt Corral each had a rushing TD as well in the win. A.J. Brown caught a team-high 8 passes for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns while Braylon Sanders added 4 catches for 133 yards and a touchdown. D.K. Metcalf added 7 receptions for 93 yards and a score while Elijah Moore added a touchdown grab and Vernon Dasher and Victor Evans each contributed a defensive TD, with Dasher recording an 88-yard pick-six while Evans returned a fumble 56 yards for a touchdown. Mohamed Sanogo led the Rebels with 7 tackles as Ole Miss allowed a whopping 629 yards of total offense in the win.
Alabama is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 conference matchups and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games in the month of September. Ole Miss is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 conference games while the over is 11-1 in their last 12 home games. Alabama is 2-6 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams at Ole Miss and 4-9 ATS in the last 13 meetings overall between these two teams.
I’ve already been burned by going against Alabama against Louisville and made up for it against Arkansas State. And the lack of defensive prowess shown by Ole Miss against Southern Illinois is certainly alarming. However, Ole Miss has the weapons offensively in Ta’amu and co. to go shot for shot with the Tide, and while the last meeting was a 66-3 romp in Tuscaloosa, the last two meetings at Ole Miss and the last three meetings from 2014-2016 have each been decided by six points or less. This should be a highly entertaining game from start to finish and the Rebels’ faithful should be out in full force for this one so I’ll take a shot with Ole Miss and the points here.
