The Line: Ole Miss Rebels +1 -- Over/Under:
The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Ole Miss Rebels meet in a week 10 SEC college football matchup from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The South Carolina Gamecocks will be looking to find some measure of consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their first 7 games this season, including a 27-24 win over Tennessee in their last outing. Jake Bentley has thrown for 1,303 yards, 11 touchdowns and 8 interceptions on 61.2% passing while Rico Dowdle has rushed for 496 yards and 3 touchdowns this season. Bryan Edwards leads the Gamecocks with 447 receiving yards and Deebo Samuel has a team-high 36 catches for 390 yards with each logging 5 receiving touchdowns this season. As a team, South Carolina is averaging 401.3 yards of total offense and 28.6 points per game this season.
The Ole Miss Rebels will also be looking to find some consistent play after splitting their last 6 games following a 31-16 loss to Auburn in their last outing. Jordan Ta’amu has thrown for 2,622 yards, 16 touchdowns and 5 interceptions on 64.6% passing while Scottie Phillips has rushed for a team-high 782 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns. A.J. Brian leads the Rebels’ receiving corps with 60 catches for 805 yards and 5 touchdowns while D.K. Metcalf and DaMarkus Lodge each have 550+ receiving yards this season with Metcalf adding 5 TDs of his own while Lodge is adding 40 catches to the cause this season. As a team, Ole Miss sits top-5 in terms of total yardage (537.9 YPG/5th in FBS) and passing yards (349.5 YPG/4th in FBS) while averaging 38.4 points per game this season.
South Carolina is 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 road games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a win while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Ole Miss is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 conference games while the over is 12-4 in their last 16 home games. The road team is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams and the underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings.
In essentially a pick ‘em game like this, I throw the underdog trend out the window because there isn’t really an underdog here. However, the road team has had the bulk of the success in this matchup. With that said, I’m still going to side with Ole Miss here. The Rebels have a distinct advantage on offense and while South Carolina has shown the ability to go shot for shot with their opposition, this line is basically just picking a winner and I think the Rebels do enough to get the job done and get the nod here.
