The Eastern Washington Eagles face some huge odds when they open their 2015 schedule with the Oregon Ducks.

The Eastern Washington Eagles look for a return to the FCS postseason in 2015 and it all begins with a season opening date with Oregon. This is not a typical FCS vs. FBS contest as former Eagles quarterback Vernon Adams  is now under center for the Ducks. Jordan West takes over and brings 1,072 passing yards to the table in four games when Adams was injured. Cooper Kupp is back after catching 104 balls for 1,431 yards and 16 touchdowns while Shaquille Hill and Kendrick Bourne combined over 1,500 yards on 104 receptions. EWU outscored opponents 44-31 and should have no problem putting up points once again and might need to with the opposition allowing 442 yards with 266 yards coming through the air.

The obvious concern for the Oregon Ducks is what happens without Marcus Mariota? The addition of quarterback Vernon Adams from Eastern Washington brings a ton of production to the position as in over 3,400 passing yards which didn’t include four games where he was injured. The ground game shouldn’t miss a beat with Royce Freeman bringing back 1,365 yards although losing a pair of All PAC 12 lineman is a worry. Byron Marshall (75-1011), Devon Allen (42-712), Dwayne Stanford (43-689) and Darren Carrington (37-704) are back in a potent receiving corps that will flourish regardless of who is quarterback. The defense allowed around 24 points a season ago and if this side of the ball comes close to this number the Ducks will be tough to handle.

The over is 3-0-1 in Eagles last 4 vs. Pac-12 and Eastern Washington   are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. Pac-12 while going  6-1 ATS in their last 7 games on fieldturf. The Ducks are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall and  are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games on fieldturf while 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games. This game has a lot of meaning being close to each other and former EWU quarterback Vernon Adams now with Oregon. I can see points aplenty so maybe the dog who is good and the points…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
