The Oregon State Beavers and the San Diego State Aztecs face off on Saturday in Corvallis in college football action.
The Oregon State Beavers are coming off of a bye week after winning their first two games. Oregon Sate has yet to be really tested but with veteran QB Sean Mannion there are expectations this year. Mannion has completed 63.4 percent of hos passes thus far with four TD’s and an interception. The Beavers have two capable running backs with Storm Woods averaging 6.2 yards per carry and Terron Ward averaging 6.5 yards per carry with two touchdowns, Victor Bolden leads the OSU receivers with 16 grabs while Connor hamlet has nine catches and each have a touchdown. Oregon State’s defense has been solid forcing seven turnover, three interceptions and four fumbles, while sacking the QB three times. Michael Doctor has 13 tackles, Ty Zimmerman has two interceptions, and Obum Gwacham has two sacks to lead the individual defensive numbers. Oregon State has seemed to take bad losses early and they hope to avoid a loss against a good team here.
The San Diego State Aztecs were ready to pull the upset in week two at North Carolina but they let it get away late and took a four-point loss. SDSU has had a week off to get past the loss at UNC and look for them to be fired up to get retribution here. Aztecs QB Quinn Kaehler has struggled as he has completed 60.7 percent of his passes but he has two touchdowns and four interceptions. Donne Pumphrey anchors the SDSU rushing attack with a 5.9 yard per carry average and four touchdowns and Chase Price averages 4.3 yards per carry. Eric Judge is the Aztecs leading receiver with eight catches and Ezell Ruffin is averaging 19.5 yards per catch. The San Diego State defense has two interceptions and two sacks, both numbers they will need to improve upon to have success. Trey Lomax is SDSU’s leading tackler, J.J. Whittaker has 13 tackles, and Na’im McGee has 12 tackles. San Diego State showed they were physical enough to play with anyone but the defense is going to need to create chances for the offense.
Oregon State is 2-5 against the spread against the Mountain West Conference, 18-6 against the spread following a bye week, and 9-3 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread. San Diego State is 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games, 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games, and 4-1 against the spread against the Pac-12.
This just looks like too many points in what should be a reasonably close game so I am going to take SDSU with the points.
