CFB | Maryland Terrapins (5-3) at Penn State Nittany Lions (4-3)

The Maryland Terrapins and Penn State Nittany Lions meet Saturday afternoon at Beaver Stadium.

The Maryland Terrapins are 2-2 in conference play and coming off their first road loss last week to Wisconsin. Maryland’s defense has been its biggest downfall this season, as it’s allowing 29.3 points, 458.4 yards, and has forced 14 turnovers and 20 sacks. Maryland has lost 13 of its last 14 games SU when allowing 25 or more points. Sean Davis leads Maryland with 75 tackles and Yannick Ngakoue has 10.5 tackles for loss. Offensively, C.J. Brown is completing 55.1 percent of his passes for eight touchdowns and six interceptions, and he also leads the Terrapins with 376 rushing yards and five scores. Maryland has won 10 of its last 12 regular season games when Brown scores at least two total touchdowns. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs is Maryland’s other playmaker, as he leads the Terps with 601 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Maryland has 20 passing plays of 25 or more yards and Deon Long is the other player with more than 16 receptions. RB Wes Brown has scored three touchdowns in his last three games.

The Penn State Nittany Lions have dropped three straight but held their own against the Ohio State Buckeyes and weren’t helped by the referees. Penn State is led by a defense that’s allowing 17.4 points, 284.7 yards, and has forced 11 turnovers and 19 sacks. The Penn State Nittany Lions have won 17 of their last 20 games when allowing 24 or less points. Mike Hull leads Penn State with 83 tackles and Anthony Zettel has eight tackles for loss. Offensively, Christian Hackenberg is completing 59.8 percent of his passes for six touchdowns and nine interceptions. Penn State has 13 passing plays of 25 or more yards and isn’t being helped by an  offensive line that’s allowed 25 sacks. DaeSean Hamilton and Geno Lewis have combined for 90 receptions, more than 1,200 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Penn State’s ground game is averaging just 2.5 yards per carry, as Bill Belton leads the way with 266 rushing yards and has scored three touchdowns in his last four games.

The Terrapins are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS loss and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a SU loss of more than 20 points. The Nittany Lions are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 home games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 conference games.

The Nittany Lions now have the confidence after simply outplaying Ohio State last weekend. And feeling like they were robbed, you can expect Penn State to play this game a little angrier than usual and take it to a fragile Maryland squad. I like Penn State to cover the small number with ease.
