CFB | Michigan State Spartans (3-8) at Penn State Nittany Lions (9-2)

The Michigan State Spartans and Penn State Nittany Lions meet Saturday afternoon in a Big Ten college football game at Beaver Stadium on ESPN for the Land Grant Trophy.

The Michigan State Spartans would love nothing more than to play spoiler after losing eight of their last nine games. The Michigan State Spartans have five wins over ranked teams dating back to last season. Tyler O'Connor is completing 59.8 percent of his passes for 1,852 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions. O'Connor has one or less touchdown pass in four of his last six games. R.J. Shelton and Donnie Corley have combined for 1,135 receiving yards and eight touchdowns while Josiah Price has 32 receptions. The Michigan State Spartans ground game is averaging 178.4 yards per contest, and LJ Scott leads the way with 935 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, Michigan State is allowing 26.2 points and 355.9 yards per game. Chris Frey leads the Michigan State Spartans with 90 tackles, Raequan Williams has two sacks and Darian Hicks has two interceptions.

The Penn State Nittany Lions hope to win their 10th game of the season and give themselves a shot to play in the Big Ten Championship Game. The Penn State Nittany Lions haven’t won double-digit games since the 2009 CFB season. Trace McSorley is completing 54.9 percent of his passes for 2,600 yards, 17 touchdowns and five interceptions. McSorley has two or more touchdown passes in four of his last six games. Chris Godwin and Mike Gesicki have combined for 1,173 receiving yards and nine touchdowns while DeAndre Thompkins has 23 receptions. The Penn State Nittany Lions ground game is averaging 187.9 yards per contest, and Saquon Barkley leads the way with 1,205 yards and 14 touchdowns. Defensively, Penn State is allowing 23.7 points and 347.1 yards per game. Marcus Allen leads the Penn State Nittany Lions with 83 tackles, Garrett Sickels has six sacks and Brandon Smith has two interceptions.

The Spartans are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in November. The Nittany Lions are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 home games and 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Spartans are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings and the over is 13-3-1 in the last 17 meetings.

Michigan State spent a ton of energy giving Michigan and Ohio State big time scares at home. On the road will be a different story, as the Spartans now face the reality of a really disappointing season that shocked all of college football. The Penn State Nittany Lions have been a roll ever since their bye week and are not only still in position for a Big Ten title, but a college football playoff spot isn't out of the question. Penn State has to win and win big whenever it can to impress the committee. Senior day and with everything on the line, I'll side with the Nittany Lions by two touchdowns.
