CFB | Duke Blue Devils (6-1) at Pittsburgh Panthers (4-4)

The Duke Blue Devils travel to Pittsburgh to play the Panthers on Saturday afternoon.

The Duke Blue Devils improved to 6-1 on the year after beating Virginia at home 20-13 two weeks ago. The Blue Devils have only lost to Miami, while their only quality wins came against Georgia Tech and now Virginia on back to back weeks. The Blue Devil defense has played outstanding this year, allowing an average of 15.1 points per game, which ranks 5th in the country. The Duke offense ranks 41st in the country in points scored, averaging over 33 points per game. Senior QB Anthony Boone has thrown for 1,362 yards with 9 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Boone’s main target is senior WR Jamison Crowder, who has caught 40 balls for 471 yards and 2 touchdowns so far for the Blue Devils. Freshman RB Shaun Wilson has carried the ball 47 times for a team high 485 yards and 4 touchdowns this season. Duke has a chance to run the table and play in the ACC championship game for the second year in a row. The Blue Devils will head out on the road for back to back games over the next two weeks. Duke is 2-1 away from home this season.

The Pittsburgh Panthers dropped to 4-4 on the season after losing at home to Georgia Tech 56-28. The Panthers have lost four of their last five games, losing to Iowa, Akron, Virginia, and now Georgia Tech. In the loss, the Panthers gained 526 total yards but they turned the ball over a whopping 6 times. QB Chad Voytik completed 15 of 20 passes for 193 yards. WR Tyler Boyd caught 9 balls for 137 yards, while RB James Conner carried the ball 10 times for 120 yards and 3 touchdowns. On the year, Voytik has thrown for 1,234 yards and 9 touchdowns. Boyd is caught 45 balls for 651 yards and 5 touchdowns, while Conner has rushed for 1,079 yards and 14 touchdowns. The Panthers defense allowed 612 total yards against Georgia Tech last weekend. Pittsburgh came into the game with the nation’s fourth ranked defense, but allowed 465 rushing yards against the Georgia Tech spread option rushing attack. On average, the Panthers are allowing 23.3 points per game and scoring 29 points per game on offense. This will be Pittsburgh’s sixth home game of the season; the Panthers are only 2-3 at Heinz field this season.

These two teams played last year and it was a shootout, with Pittsburgh winning 58-55 at Duke. Duke will have had two weeks to prepare for this game against the Panthers. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh is coming off an embarrassing loss at home to Georgia Tech. Duke is an elite team not only in the ACC but in the country in my opinion. Pittsburgh has some talented players in Conner and Boyd, but that won’t be enough to beat the Blue Devils on Saturday. I believe Duke will go on the road and beat the Panthers, but I’ll take the points just to be safe.
