Two of the hottest teams in the ACC will take the field Saturday when North Carolina travels to take on Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh Panthers beat Syracuse last weekend 23-20 making this the fourth victory in a row for the Panthers. Quarterback Nathan Peterman completed 19 of his 25 passes for 189 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. Running back Qadree Ollison had success on the ground running the ball 23 times for 103 yards and 2 touchdowns. Wide Receiver Tyler Boyd led the Panthers with 12 catches for 93 yards and no touchdowns. Lafayette Pitts and Matt Galambos were big for Pittsburgh on defense, each recording an interception. Pittsburgh will try to make it 5 in a row when they host North Carolina this weekend.
North Carolina has now won 6 games in a row after defeating the Virginia Cavaliers 26-13. Quarterback Marquise Williams went 21/26 for 226 yards with no touchdowns and 1 interception. Williams also added 12 carries for 71 yards on the ground. Running back Elijah Hood carried the ball 21 times for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bug Howard and Quinshad Davis led the Tar Heels in receiving combining for 8 catches for 83 yards. Malik Simmons, Sam Smiley and Shakeel Rashad combined for 4 interceptions on defense. North Carolina will have a tough test traveling to Pittsburgh who is just as hot as the Tar Heels.
The North Carolina Tar Heels are 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game. The Tar Heels are 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 games in October. Pittsburgh is 11-4 against the spread in their last 15 home games vs. a team with a winning record. The Panthers are 1-5 against the spread in their last 6 home games.
Both of these teams are on fire right now but someone will have to lose this game. Even with Pittsburgh being at home i am leaning towards the powerful offense of the Tar Heels. I think the Tar Heels will win a close one on the road. Take the Tar Heels to cover this small spread.
