The Poinsettia Bowl features the Boise State Broncos and the Northern Illinois Huskies taking the field at Qualcomm Stadium.

This was supposed to the year the Boise State mad a return to the national scene with a loaded squad. That didn’t happen even though the numbers were very solid with Broncos outscoring the opposition 38-21Boise averaged 489 yards behind the #20 passing attack (304 yards) and allowed 342 with just 118 yards coming on the ground. Quarterback Brett Rypien was a 3,000 yard passer with 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions with top target Thomas Sperbeck leading the Broncos with 1,334 yards on 82 receptions and eight scores. Boise State could be formidable on the ground if Jeremy McNichols had the ball (221-1244) with 18 touchdowns and another 364 yards in receptions.

The Northern Illinoi Huskies bid to win another MAC championship was thwarted by Bowling Green. The Huskies outscored the opposition 33-25 with the #29 rushing attack (205 yards) leading the way while the defensive side of the football was about right in the middle of the rankings in just about everything. Quarterback Drew Hare wasn’t the dual threat we have been accustomed to seeing from NIU and was strictly a passer with nearly 2,000 yards with 14 TD’s and four picks on 64% with 71 catches and 1,122 yards going to Kenny Golladay. Joel Bouagnon was the workhorse on the ground with 275 carries for 1,270 yards and 18 scores although Jordan Huff gave the Huskies explosiveness with 81 totes and 640 yards an 7.8 yard average.

The Broncos are 0-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. MAC while the over is 4-0 in Broncos last 4 games on grass. The Huskies are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 Wednesday games and are 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a double-digit loss at home while the under is 6-1 in Huskies last 7 vs. a team with a winning record. Going with the Broncos but check back a few hours before game time for updates…

Boise State -9 // line dropping like a rock...Boise -4 1st half looks like better play

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
