The Line: Purdue Boilermakers -1.5 -- Over/Under:
The Iowa Hawkeyes and Purdue Boilermakers meet Saturday in college football action at Ross-Ade Stadium.
The Iowa Hawkeyes look to avoid back-to-back losses for the first time this season while picking up their third road victory. The Iowa Hawkeyes have split their last eight road games. Nate Stanley is completing 56.1 percent of his passes for 1,764 yards, 16 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Stanley has one or less touchdown passes in four of his last eight games. T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant have combined for 855 receiving yards and nine touchdowns while Nick Easley has 28 receptions. The Iowa Hawkeyes ground game is averaging 161.6 yards per contest, and Toren Young leads the way with 421 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Iowa is allowing 16.1 points and 264.9 yards per game. Jake Gervase leads the Iowa Hawkeyes with 45 tackles, Anthony Nelson has 6.5 sacks and Geno Stone has three interceptions.
The Purdue Boilermakers look for a bounce back victory here after winning four of their last five games. The Purdue Boilermakers have split their last eight home games. David Blough is completing 65.2 percent of his passes for 2,350 yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions. Blough has three touchdown passes in four of his last six games. Rondale Moore and Isaac Zico have combined for 1,297 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns while Brycen Hopkins has 26 receptions. The Purdue Boilermakers ground game is averaging 162.3 yards per contest, and D.J. Knox leads the way with 719 yards and eight touchdowns. Defensively, Purdue is allowing 22.8 points and 432.3 yards per game. Markus Bailey leads the Purdue Boilermakers with 69 tackles, Jacob Thieneman has four sacks and Kenneth Major has three interceptions.
The Hawkeyes are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games in November and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Boilermakers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 conference games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Hawkeyes are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings in Purdue, the road team is 8-0 ATS in their last 8 meetings and the over is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings. The over is 37-18-1 in Boilermakers last 56 home games and the over is 5-1 in Hawkeyes last 6 games overall.
The Iowa Hawkeyes are coming off a bad loss to Penn State in which Stanley looked nothing like the quarterback he was in previous weeks, and the defense was going up against an injured Trace McSorley. The Purdue Boilermakers couldn't get anything going last week against Michigan State, but it's what I expected given the Spartans defense and MSU never being an easy place to play for visitors. The Iowa Hawkeyes have failed to cover five of their last six games as an underdog of any kind. The Purdue Boilermakers are 8-4-1 ATS in their last 13 games as a favorite of any kind. I lost a bit of confidence in Iowa after what I saw last week, while my views of Purdue stayed the same given last week was what I expected. At home, Purdue should be a lot more comfortable and the offense should be opened up a bit more. Purdue also won last years meeting against Iowa, and those Boilermakers weren't nearly as good as this years. Give me Purdue and the small line.
