The South Alabama Jaguars and the Bowling Green Falcons face off on Saturday in Montgomery in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl.
The South Alabama Jaguars finished the season 6-6 losing four of their last five games. USA is averaging 22.1 points and 372.8 yards per game and hey were led by QB Brandon Bridge who completed 51.9 percent of his passes with 14 touchdowns and six interceptions. Kendall Houston leads the Jaguars in rushing with 659 yards and Shavarez Smith has 50 receptions and eight touchdowns. South Alabama’s defense allows 25.8 points and 390.5 yards per game with 20 takeaways and 25 sacks. Terrell Brigham has 101 tackles, Maleki Harris has 77 tackles, and Theo Rich has 8.0 sacks. This is South Alabama’s first bowl game.
The Bowling Green Falcons ended the season at 7-6 losing their last three games including the MAC Championship. The Bowling Green offense averaged 29.8 points per game and 427.8 yards led by QB James Knapke who completed 57.4 percent of his passes with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Travis Greene led the Falcons in rushing with 908 yards and 10 touchdowns and Roger Lewis is BGSU’s leading receiver with 69 catches and five touchdowns. Defensively Bowling Green allows 33.9 points and 499.6 yards per game with 29 takeaways and 24 sacks. Gabe Martin has 110 tackles, Brian Sutton has 102 tackles, and Bryan Thomas has 6.0 sacks. Bowling Green struggled against the better teams this season.
South Alabama is 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games, 7-3 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread, and 0-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Bowling Green is 0-3-1 against the spread in their last four bowl games, 8-3-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread, and 0-3-1 against the spread in their last four games.
