The San Diego State Aztecs collide with the Ohio Bobcats on Wednesday in the DXL Fresno Bowl.
The San Diego State Aztecs crawl in to their Bowl off of three straight losses to end the regular season. San Diego State did not stand out offensively with 354 yards and 22.3 points with the #75 rushing attack producing162 yards.
The Aztecs success generally depended on the defensive side of the football and this unit responded with only 327 yards and 21.8 points allowed. Opponents could not run on SDSU with less then 95 yards allowed to rank third in the country.
Ryan Agnew led San Diego State with 1,525 passing yards with Christian Chapman throwing for 774 yards. Fred Trevellion was the most explosive Aztecs receiver with 598 yards on 22 receptions for an eye opening 27.2 yard average while possession receiver Kahale Warring caught a team high 31 passes for 372 yards and 12 yard average.
SDSU was home to a highly productive rushing attack in recent years but this was a grind it out type ground game behind 870 yards from Juwan Washington on 180 touches with Chase Jasmin adding 592 yards on 138 totes.
The Ohio Bobcats ended the regular season with wins in five of six but still missed out on the MAC title game. The high powered Ohio offense racked up 471 yards and 41 points with the #8 rushing attack piling up 262 yards.
The Bobcats struggled defensively in the first half of the season before turning things around with 400 yards and 26.7 points allowed overall with less then 136 yards allowed on the ground.
Quarterback Nathan Rourke gave Ohio a quality dual threat completing 61.3% of his throws for 2,225 yards for 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions while running 125 times for 816 yards and 13 scores. Papi White was the Bobcats top receiving option with 897 yards on 58 catches with Andrew Meyer and Cameron Odom combined for 849 yards on 63 receptions.
The Bobcats workhorse on the ground was AJ Ouellette with 184 rushes producing 1,142 yards and 12 TD’s while Maleek Irons totaled 831 yards on 126 touches.
