The Line: San Jose State Spartans -5.5 -- Over/Under:
The San Jose Spartans welcome the Fresno State Bulldogs to Spartan Stadium in week four.
For the second straight week the Fresno State Bulldogs have struggled on both sides of the football in a 45-24 defeat to visiting Utah in week three although the special teams had a lot to do with it.. In a somewhat sloppy showing by both teams the Utes had 380 yards and three turnovers while the Bulldogs totaled 365 yards and lost a pair of fumbles and had the ball for less then 22 minutes. Fresno State quarterback Chason Virgil hit on 11-25 for 97 yards before Zach Greenlee came on to complete 6-10 for 144 and three touchdowns including an 82 yarder to Jamire Jordan. Marteze Waller was the rushing attack with 62 yards on 16 totes but nothing of significance otherwise with Utah recording TD’s on a kick and punt return.
After opening the season with a solid win over a decent New Hampshire squad the San Jose Spartans have dropped back to back contests following a 35-21 loss at Oregon State in week three. The Spartans had upset on their minds with a 21-14 lead at the break but never scored again as they were outgained 444-257 which made a pair of interceptions including a pick six stand out. Malik Watson and Joe Gray combine for 77 yards in the air with an interception each with Gray tossing for a TD but Kenny Potter was the Spartans best QB with 72 yards on 8-9. Tyler Ervin gave SJSU 81 rushing yards on 20 carries and a pair of touchdowns but the offense was silent in the second half.
The under is 4-0 in Bulldogs last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game while the over is 6-0 in Bulldogs last 6 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game and 7-1 in Bulldogs last 8 games following a S.U. loss. The Spartans are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 conference games and are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS loss while going 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. loss. The over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and the home team is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings while the favorite is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 meetings. I think these teams are close enough to the point where getting points is valuable…
