The Line: SMU Mustangs -39 -- Over/Under: 65.5
The Houston Baptist Huskies and SMU Mustangs meet Saturday in college football action at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
The Houston Baptist Huskies look for a big road upset to get back to a .500 record. The Houston Baptist Huskies have lost 11 of their last 13 road games. Bailey Zappe is completing 61.3 percent of his passes for 789 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions. Zappe must take better care of the football if the Huskies stand a chance in this game. Nick Sexton and Aaron Marquez have combined for 263 receiving yards and one touchdown while Jarreth Sterns has nine receptions. The Houston Baptist Huskies ground game is averaging 154 yards per contest, and D'Angelo Wallace leads the way with 296 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Houston Baptist is allowing 32 points and 428.3 yards per game. Langston Tunson leads the Houston Baptist Huskies with 53 tackles, Caleb Johnson has 1.5 sacks and Kyle Bowling has one interception.
The SMU Mustangs look for another victory to build on their rough 1-3 start to the CFB season. The SMU Mustangs have won seven of their last nine home games. Ben Hicks is completing 49.4 percent of his passes for 492 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Hicks and William Brown have combined for eight touchdown passes and two interceptions this season. James Proche and Braeden West have combined for 503 receiving yards and five touchdowns while Reggie Roberson Jr. has 10 receptions. The SMU Mustangs ground game is averaging 100.7 yards per contest, and West leads the way with 274 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, SMU is allowing 40.8 points and 431 yards per game. Rodney Clemons leads the SMU Mustangs with 38 tackles, Richard Moore has two sacks and Shaine Hailey has one interception.
The under is 4-0 in Mustangs last 4 games following a straight up win.
While it was against a shaky Navy team, the SMU Mustangs finally showed some of their potential with an outright victory as 6.5 point underdogs. SMU is too experienced offensively and has too many bright offensive minds on their coaching staff to continue to struggle scoring points. The Houston Baptist Huskies have been sloppy out of the gate and don't have the horses to hang in this game from an offensive standpoint. This is a lot of chalk to lay, but assuming SMU can build on its recent performance, this should be a blowout victory for the home team.
