The Line: Bowling Green Falcons +3 -- Over/Under: 55
The Bowling Green Falcons face off with the South Alabama Jaguars in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl.
The defense first South Alabama Jaguars were probably fortunate to snag a Bowl invite with losses in four of five to finish the season at 6-6. When this team was at the top of their game they didn't need a lot of points to win. This unit was very good versus the pass with less then 200 yards given up but their weakness was stopping the run with opponents racking up over 190 yards. The end result was 390 yards and 26 points allowed which is the good news. The bad news was 373 yards and 22 points which was #107 nationally. The Jaguars liked to keep things on the ground with a top 50 rushing attack producing 183 yards although putting the ball in the air was not a strength at just 190 yards. QB Brandon Bridge didn't make many mistakes but he was little more then a 50% passer with 1,541 yards with top target Shavarez Smith catching 50 balls for 714 yards. Kendall Houston ran 652 yards with Xavier Johnson, Jay Jones and Terrance Timmons combining for nearly 1,200 yards.
The Bowling Green Falcons lost the MAC title game to end the year with a 7-6 which seems odd for a team playing in the conference championship game. At times it was difficult to predict this team from week to week although the numbers say the defense was a weak link with 500 yards allowed per game with over 290 coming in the air and over 200 on the ground which led to 34 points per. The offense struggled the last month but overall averaged 428 yards with top 50 rushing and passing attacks producing around 30 points. QB James Knapke threw 455 times but was a 57% passer and mistake prone. Knapke passed for 2,805 yards with 13 TD's and 12 picks with the trio of Roger Lewis, Ryan Burbrink and Ronnie Moore combining for around 2,300 yards on 180 catches. Travis Greene paced the Falcons on the ground with 908 yards with Fred Coppet and Andre Givens combining for over 1,100 yards.
The under is 8-0 in Jaguars last 8 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game while the Jaguars are 0-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Bowling Green Falcons are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 bowl games and 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 Bowl games while going 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game. I have watched both teams this season and both have disappointed at times and Bowling Green more so then South Alabama. I still the Falcons are better then they look and I'll take the points...
