|Date & Time||Saturday September 1, 2018, 7:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: South Alabama Jaguars +10.5 -- Over/Under: 51
The South Alabama Jaguars welcome the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs to town for game one of the college football season.
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs look to improve upon their 7-6 record of 2018 where opponents were outscored 31-25. Louisiana Tech returns quarterback J’Mar Smith along with top target Teddy Veal who hauled in 74 passes. Overall the Bulldogs get back four of their top five receivers to help improve an average passing attack.
The La Tech rushing game needs somebody to carry the load on the ground and Jaqwis Dancy and Kam McKnight are two names to watch. Whoever emerges as the go to guy in the backfield has an experienced offensive line to run behind. The Bulldogs defense has enough coming back to keep the scoreboard from getting out of control which is a must if the offense struggles to throw the football.
The South Alabama Jaguars finished 4-8 a season ago with offensive struggles being an issue with the team being outscored 27-20. On top of that starting quarterback Dallas Davis left the team which leaves the team with Cole Garvin and Cephus Johnson fighting for the job. Whoever wins the job will be throwing to a veteran Jaguars receiving corps led by Sam Harris and Jamarius Way.
The USA rushing game was a glaring weakness, averaging less then 95 yards and now must replace Xavier Johnson who was the program’s all time leading rusher. Tra Minter and Deonta Moore appear to be the top names in the backfield but the rushing attack also needs to piece together an offensive line. South Alabama had some success defensively a year ago but the unit must find a way to pressure the quarterback.
Louisiana Tech are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 vs. S-Belt and over is 17-7 in Louisiana Tech last 24 games on fieldturf and Louisiana Tech are 35-17 ATS in their last 52 road games. Under is 4-0 in South Alabama last 4 games in September and under is 6-1 in South Alabama last 7 games on fieldturf and under is 5-1 in Jaguars last 6 home games.
This game is going to revolve around a strong Louisiana Tech offense being able to find the end zone against a capable but outmanned Jaguars defense…
