The Line: South Carolina Gamecocks -25 -- Over/Under: 56.5
The South Carolina Gamecocks and the South Alabama Jaguars face off on Saturday in Columbia in college football action.
The South Carolina Gamecocks are a win away from being bowl eligible and despite beating Florida last week in a comeback win it has been a disappointing year. The South Carolina offense is averaging 34.6 points and 461.7 yards per game and they are led by QB Dylan Thompson who has completed 60.1 percent of his passes with 22 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Mike Davis leads South Carolina in rushing with 875 yards and nine touchdowns and Pharoh Cooper is the Gamecocks leading receiver with 55 receptions. The South Carolina defense has been soft allowing 32.7 points and 442.3 yards per game with 11 takeaways and nine sacks. T.J. Gurley and Skai Morre each have 63 tackles and Johnathan Walton has 46 tackles. At the start of the year the talks were the college football playoffs, now it is a minor bowl at best.
The South Alabama Jaguars are 6-4 this season and bowl eligible but knocking off a SEC team would be a huge feather in their cap. The South Alabama offense is averaging 21.3 points and 376.9 yards per game but QB Brandon Bridge has missed the last two games and it is unknown whether he will be playing in this one or not and if he can’t go it will be Hunter Vaughn who was the QB in the Jaguars win last week. Kendall Houston has rushed for 518 yards to lead USA and Shavarez Smith has 39 receptions and six touchdowns. The South Alabama defense allows 23.1 points and 380.2 yards per game with 12 takeaways and 24 sacks. Terrell Brigham has 83 tackles, Devin Hawkins has 63 tackles, and Theo Rich has 7.0 sacks. This game is big for a program like South Alabama so don’t expect them to leave anything in the locker room.
South Carolina is 5-1 against the spread against the Sun Belt, 8-3 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 1-5 against the spread in their last six home games. South Alabama is 1-4 against the spread following a win, 0-5 against the spread in their last five games, and 0-4 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread.
South Carolina is a big favorie but I can see them rolling it up for the home crowd who have been dissappointed plenty this year.
