On Thursday, the Temple Owls head to South Florida for an ACC matchup with the Bulls. In their last game, Temple was absolutely crushed by Central Florida by the score of 63-21. Quarterback Anthony Russo was 12-24 passing for 199 yards and threw for 2 touchdowns as well as 2 interceptions. Branden Mack was the Owls leading receiver as he recorded 5 catches for 104 yards and a touchdown. The Temple running game was never able to get started against a tough UCF defense as leading rusher Re’Mahn Davis carried the ball 26 times for just 26 yards.
On the year, Temple is now 5-3 with a conference record of 2-2 which places them in 3rd in the AAC East. On the year, Russo has thrown for 1,873 yards, 16 touchdown passes and 8 interceptions. Davis the Owls leading rusher and has ran for a total of 655 yards and 5 touchdowns on 135 carries so far this season. Mack has been the most productive wide out for the Owls and has caught 43 passes for 629 yards and 5 touchdowns on the year.
The South Florida Bulls come into Thursday’s game after beating East Carolina by the score of 45-20 in their last game. USF quarterback Jordan McCloud completed 9 of his 12 passing attempts for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns as well as running 4 times for 49 yards. McCloud split time under center with Kirk Rygol who completed 6 of 12 passes for 74 yards and a touchdown. Wide outs Randall St. Felix, Jacob Mathis and Terrance Horne all caught touchdown passes but St. Felix was the most productive on the day, catching 5 passes for 79 yards to go along with his touchdown. The South Florida running game was also strong as Jordan Cronkrite carried the ball 12 times for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns and Jah’Quez Evans carried 6 times for 99 yards and a touchdown.
On the year, South Florida is now 4-4 with a 2-2 record in conference play which is good enough for 4th place in the AAC East Division. McClous has been the teams leading passer as he has thrown for 776 yards and 10 touchdowns against 6 interceptions. Mitchell Wilcox has been the lead receiver for the Bulls and has caught 15 passes for 254 yards and 4 touchdowns on the season. Jordan Cronkrite has been the lead rusher for the Bulls and has carried the ball 108 times for 587 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Temple is averaging scoring 27.6 points per game and is giving up 27.8 points per game. USF is scoring 26.1 points per game and allowing 28.4 points per game. This game could go either way, but I have to go with Temple in this one. This should be a decently high scoring game as Temple has given up 45 and 63 points in their past 2 games but I believe they will get back on track in this one. Temple wins 31-20 and covers the spread.
