CBS Sports Network HD
The Southern Methodist Mustangs shoot for their first win when the South Florida Bulls visit.
The South Florida Bulls have watched their season get away from them mainly because they have struggled to score points. That has put a lot of pressure on the defensive side of the ball and it simply hasn't worked out. Things were not good in a 27-3 loss to Houston heading in to their bye week as 222 yards wasn't enough to move the chains and find the endzone. The Cougars mustered 306 yards with most coming during a 20-3 second half run. The Bulls weren't able to establish the run with less then 85 yards which put all the focus on the passing game. Steven Bench connected on 12-25 for 147 yards with an interception but the offense never established consistency.
The Southern Methodist Mustangs haven't come close to breaking to the win column although they have played well in stretches but never for 60 minutes which is why the team hasn't won. The Mustangs played one of their best games in a 38-28 defeat at Tulsa in week eleven with this a one score game with around three minutes remaining. The Golden Hurricane won the yardage battle 501-464 with both squads able to do damage on the ground and in the air. Matt Davis threw for 212 yards with a 64 yard touchdown strike to Der'rikk Thompson while tossing a pair of interceptions. Davis was the ultimate dual threat with 28 rushes for 181 yards and two more touchdowns. SMU might have picked up the win with a mistake free contest but not with three turnovers.
The under is 4-0 in Bulls last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game and is 8-1 in Bulls last 9 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game while going 8-1 in Bulls last 9 vs. a team with a losing record. For Southern Methodist the over is 6-0 in Mustangs last 6 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game while the Mustangs are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games and the over is 6-1 in Mustangs last 7 games overall. This game has been hit with the ugly stick and I see nothing I like enough to bet so take that with a grain of salt...
