The Line: Southern Miss Golden Eagles -- Over/Under:
The Marshall Thundering Herd put their perfect record on the line at the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles.
The Marshall Thundering Herd have been mowing down their opponents and look to to do the same to Southern Mississippi in week eleven. The Thundering Herd haven't struggled often but did during the first half of a 35-16 victory versus visiting Florida Atlantic heading in to their bye week. The Owls led 16-14 at the half before getting blasted 21-0 in the final 30 minutes. In the end the Herd won the yardsge battle 546-388 behind a bruising rushing attack that averaged over nine yards per touch. Rakeem Cato completed 13-24 for 218 yards with a 21 yard touchdown to Tommy Schuler but it was the running of Devon Johnson that was centerstage. Johnson totaled 272 yards on 24 carries with four touchdowns and the bend but don't break Marshall defense shutdown the Owls in the second.
The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles have shown progress from the past few seasons where they simply were overmatched. In 2014 the record is not impressive but we have definitely seen improvement and whether that continues remains to be seen. Having said that, in a 35-14 loss to Texas El Paso the team seemingly gave the game away with a 402-234 edge in yardage and five turnovers that wiped out any edge they might have held. Southern Miss gave up a 98 yard kick return along with a 59 yard fumble return and a 51 yard pick six. The rushing attack didn't have anything going but quarterback Cole Weeks completed 20-46 for 309 yards with a 55 yard scoring strike to Casey Martin although two interceptions ruined his afternoon. This was a game that probably deserved to go in the win column if not for miscues.
The over is 7-0 in Thundering Herd last 7 games in November while the Thundering Herd are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss and are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win. For Southern Mississippi the over is 6-0 in Golden Eagles last 6 games after allowing less than 275 total yards in their previous game while the under is 4-1 in Golden Eagles last 5 games following a S.U. loss and is 4-1 in Golden Eagles last 5 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game. Head to head the over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Southern Mississippi and is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings. No line is out because Southern Miss has injury concerns with quarterback Nick Mullens questionable. It will be a huge spread regardless of whether he plays so please check back by Friday...
