The North Texas Mean Green hope to break in to the win column against the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles.
The North Texas Mean Green have had issues getting both sides of the ball on the same page and those issues were evident in a 62-16 loss at Iowa in week four. The Hawkeyes jumped to a 35-13 lead at the half and were never challenged in piling up 488 yards. The Mean Green totaled 356 yards but turned the ball over three times with back to back pick 6’s in the 4th. UNT ran the ball well at times behind Jeffrey Wilson and Antoinne Jimmerson’s combined 140 yards on 29 carries but that wasn’t enough to milk the clock and keep Iowa off the field. The Mean Green really needed more from Andrew McNulty and the passing attack but a 14-36 effort for 137 yards fell well short.
The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles have done absolutely nothing the past several seasons but I have noticed some improvement in 2015. A 36-28 loss at Nebraska as a three touchdown underdog says as much with a failed comeback from a 22-0 deficit still being impressive. In the end the Cornhuskers had just a bit more offense with a 610-458 advantage with balance while USM was one dimensional with zero running ability. With less then a handful of yards on the ground Southern Miss received a boost from quarterback Nick Mullens who went 26-41 for 447 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Casey Martin who caught eight passes for 102 yards with Michael Thomas posting five receptions for 121 yards as the Nebraska secondary had no answers.
The Mean Green are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a SU loss of more than 20 points. and are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games in October while going 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Golden Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and the under is 7-0 in Golden Eagles last 7 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game while the Golden Eagles are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game. I hate that Southern Miss is such a big favorite but I think they have the potential to cover here…
