Sun Bowl Stadium and the Texas El Paso Miners welcome the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles to town.
The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles have been somewhat erratic at times and they got away with it against Kentucky in the season opener but not in week three’s 37-31 loss to visiting Troy as a 9.5 point favorite but three turnovers evened things out. USM quarterback Nick Mullens didn’t have a good day, connecting on 24-51 for 263 yards with a touchdown and a pair of interceptions. Allen Staggers paced the Golden Eagles receiving crew with six receptions for 98 yards and a score. Ito Smith gave the Golden Eagles some quality runs with 131 yards on 20 touches an touchdowns of two yards and 70 yards.
The Texas El Paso Miners have dropped back to back contests following a 66-14 defeat at the hands of visiting Army. The Miners struggled on both sides of the ball with the Black Knights racking up almost 600 yards with over 400 yards coming on the ground while UTEP was limited to 269 yards. Aaron Jones was the Miners only threat on the ground with 67 yards on eleven totes including a 24 yard scoring burst. Texas El Paso quarterback Zack Greenlee completed 7-15 for 106 yards and a touchdown but passing is not what this team does best, running is and the Miners struggled in that area.
The Golden Eagles are 6-1-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and the under is 6-1 in Golden Eagles last 7 vs. a team with a losing record while the Golden Eagles are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games in September. The over is 4-0 in Miners last 4 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and the Miners are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 games following a double-digit loss at home while going 5-1 ATS in their last 6 conference games. Week three’s performance was bad so hopefully a bounce back…
