The Line: Oregon State Beavers +16.5 -- Over/Under:
The Stanford Cardinal pay a visit to Reser Stadium to battle the Oregon State Beavers Friday night.
Stanford was not given mush respect as they entered week three at USC because of their season opening loss to Northwestern. However the Cardinal proved they are better then the experts though after defeating the Trojans 41-31 as a ten point road dog. Stanford won the yardage battle 474-427 and dominated time of possession with 39+ minutes. Kevin Hogan gave Stanford a near perfect game in the air with an 18-23 effort for 279 yards and a pair of touchdowns with Austin Hooper catching four balls for 79 yards and a score. Christian McCaffrey paced the Cardinal on the ground with 115 yards on 26 carries while Remound Wright added 41 yards and three TD’s. Lost in the shuffle was Southern Cal was held to ten second half points.
The Oregon State Beavers overcame a slow start to defeat San Jose State 35-21 in week three to up their record to 2-1. The Beavers rode a 21-0 third quarter to erase a seven point deficit and the defense took over from there. OSU dominated yardage 438-253 behind a bruising rushing attack. Quarterback Seth Collins completed 13-25 for 135 yards with a touchdown and interception but he was more dangerous on the ground for the Beavers with 114 yards and a pair of scores on 16 carries while Storm Woods exploded for 151 yards on 17 touches with another touchdown. Jordan Villamin led Oregon State with three receptions for 45 yards in a quiet but effective passing attack.
The under is 5-1 in Cardinal last 6 games in September and the Cardinal are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall while the under is 5-1 in Cardinal last 6 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game. The Beavers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. win and are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing less than 275 total yards in their previous game while the under is 4-0-1 in Beavers last 5 games following a S.U. win. The favorite is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 meetings and the Cardinal are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 meetings while the under is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings in Oregon State. I think the spread is about right so neither side thrills me but I’ll take the home dog especially if Hogan is out...
