The Line: Stanford Cardinal -13.5 -- Over/Under:
The Stanford Cardinal and the Oregon State Beavers face off on Saturday at Stanford Stadium in a Pac-12 college football battle of two teams coming off of a loss.
The Stanford Cardinal just haven’t been the same team we have seen in recent years and it came to light once again last Saturday as they lost at Arizona State. The Stanford offense is averaging 24 points and 374.9 yards per game and they are led by QB Kevin Hogan who has completed 62.4 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions. Remound Wright leads the Cardinal ground attack averaging 5.3 yards per carry with two touchdowns and Ty Montgomery is the leading receiver with 43 catches and three touchdowns. The Stanford defense allows 12.3 points with five interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and 21 sacks. Blake Martinez has 55 tackles, A.J. Tarpley has 49 tackles including two sacks, and Peter Kalamayi has 4.5 sacks. Stanford just has been much sloppier than we have grown accustomed to seeing them be.
The Oregon State Beavers have lost two of their last three games and they are coming off of an overtime loss to Utah. The Oregon State offense is averaging 27.3 points and 392.7 yards per game and are led by QB Sean Mannion who has fallen well short of expectations this seasoncompleting 63.5 percent of his passes with just seven touchdowns and five interceptions. Terron Ward and Storm woods have shared the load in the backfield with Ward averaging 5 yards a carry and Woods averaging 5.7 while Victor Bolden is the Beavers leading receiver with 28 catches and a touchdown. The OSU defense is allowing 24.3 points and 328.7 yards with seven interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and 15 sacks. Michael Doctor and Jabral Johnson each have 34 tackles and Ty Zimmerman has 33 tackles. Oregon State’s losses this year have both been in the Pac-12.
Stanford is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight home games, 5-0 against the spread following a loss, and 1-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Oregon State is 4-1 against the spread following a loss, 4-1 against the spread on the road against a team with a winning home record, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven road games. The favorite has covered the point spread in the last four meetings of these two.
Stanford is favored by nearly two touchdowns and that is a lot of points for their offense so my play is Oregon State with the points.
