The Line: Washington State Cougars -2.5 -- Over/Under: 61
The Washington State Cougars shoot for a win versus the Miami Hurricanes in the Sun Bowl.
The Miami Hurricanes don’t have numbers that jump off the page with middle of the row numbers on both sides of the ball but game through enough to win eight games. The line between winning and losing can be a fine one and the Canes walked that line successfully despite scoring and allowing 29 points. The offense averaged just over 400 yards behind a top 30 passing attack that produced 282 yards The defense allowed 407 yards and were airtight versus the pass with 196 yards given up. QB Brad Kaaya threw for over 3,000 yards with 15 scores and four picks with the trio of Stacy Coley, Rashawn Scott and Herb Waters each totaling 600 yards in receptions. The Hurricanes weren’t known for their running but Joseph Yearby was the go to guy on the ground with 939 yards and almost five yards per totes.
The Washington State Cougars finished the season strong with wins in three of four with the loss coming to Washington in the Apple Cup. Fans of offense loved the Cougars with their top ranked passing attack logging 397 yards and leading to 32 points. WSU gave up 423 yards and 29 points but allowed 200 rushing yards so teams would run to keep their Cougars pass happy offense on the sideline. Luke Falk’s passing ability was second to none with 4,266 yards with 36 touchdowns and eight INT’s on nearly 71%. Gabe Marks paced the Washington State receiving corps with 99 catches for 1,125 yards and 14 scores while Dom Williams caught 73 pass for almost a 1,000 yards and eleven TD’s. Gerard Wicks gave the Cougars a bit of production with 600 yards on 102 tries for a nifty 5.9 yard average.
The Hurricanes are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 bowl games and are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games while Miami are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games in December. The under is 4-0 in Cougars last 4 games following a straight up loss of more than 20 points and the Cougars are 6-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record while going 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game. I think the Cougars will be able to throw and cover the small number…
