|Date & Time||Saturday November 8, 2014, 12:30 PM (EST)|
The Line: Syracuse Orange +3 -- Over/Under: TBA
The Duke Blue Devils travel to Syracuse to play the Orange on Saturday afternoon.
The Duke Blue Devils improved to 7-1, 3-1 ACC after beating Pittsburgh on the road 51-48 in double overtime last weekend. The Blue Devils have won three straight games after losing to Miami back in September. Duke is a solid all around team that is looking to earn a spot in the ACC championship game. The Blue Devils defense has played great this year, holding their opponents to an average of 19.3 points per game, which ranks 13th in the country. The Duke offense is averaging an impressive 35.8 points per game which ranks 28th in the country. QB Anthony Boone has thrown for 1,628 yards with 12 touchdowns and 3 interceptions for Duke. Boone has also rushed for 243 yards and 4 scores. WR Jamison Crowder is the most talented player on the team, hauling in 49 balls for 636 yards and 4 touchdowns this season. RB Shaun Wilson has 528 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns this season. The Blue Devils will play their last road game of the season on Saturday and will then head home for three straight conference games.
The Syracuse Orange dropped to 3-6 on the year after losing to North Carolina State 24-17 last weekend at home. The Orange have lost two straight and six of their last seven overall. The only win Syracuse has in that stretch is over Wake Forest, while losing to Maryland, Notre Dame, Louisville, Florida State, and Clemson. Against NC State, the Orange produced 345 total yards, while holding the Wolfpack to only 307 total yards. Syracuse turned the ball over 3 times and committed 6 penalties for 61 yards. QB AJ Long completed only 22 of 42 passes for 307 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. WR Jarrod West caught a whopping 7 balls for 161 yards, while RB Prince-Tyson Gulley carried the ball 15 times for only 28 yards for Syracuse. On the year, Syracuse is allowing an average of 23 points per game, which ranks a decent 43rd in the country. Offensively, the Orange have struggled, averaging only 20.1 points per game, which ranks near the bottom teams in the country. This will be Syracuse’s final home game of the season with the opportunity to knock off one of the best teams in the ACC. Syracuse is 1-5 at home this season.
There have been no recent meetings between these two teams, but they will face off this Saturday for the first time as college football conference opponents. Duke is the better team in this matchup with a solid defense and some key skill players on offense. Syracuse is struggling and they have not played well at home this season. I think this will be a low scoring game and Duke will win by at least a touchdown.
