|Date & Time||Saturday November 1, 2014, 3:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Syracuse Orange -3.5 -- Over/Under: 51
The North Carolina State Wolfpack travel to Syracuse to play the Orange on Saturday afternoon.
The North Carolina State Wolfpack dropped to 4-4 on the season after losing at Louisville 30-18 two weeks ago. The Wolfpack have lost four straight games after starting the season off with four straight wins over Georgia Southern, Old Dominion, South Florida, and Presbyterian. NC State has dropped all of their conference games to Florida State, Clemson, Boston College, and Louisville. The Wolfpack defense is allowing 28.9 points per game, which ranks 83rd in the country. NC State has allowed 56, 41, 30, and 30 points in their last four games. The Wolfpack offense is averaging 225.5 passing yards per game, led by QB Jacoby Brissett, who has 1,796 passing yards and 16 touchdowns this season. Freshman WR Bo Hines has caught 28 passes for 422 yards and 1 touchdown this season. The NC State rushing game, averaging 180.8 yards per game, is led by RB Shadrach Thornton, who has 477 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns this season. Overall, the Wolfpack offense is averaging 29.3 points per game, which ranks 72nd in the country. This will be the Wolfpack’s fourth road game of the year; NC State is 1-2 on the road this season.
The Syracuse Orange lost at Clemson 16-6 last weekend and are now 3-5 on the season. The Orange have lost five of their last six games, dropping games to Maryland, Notre Dame, Louisville, Florida State, and now Clemson. The Orange were outgained 375 to 170 by Clemson last weekend. Syracuse forced three turnovers and the defense definitely did their part on Saturday. On the year, the Syracuse defense is allowing only 22.9 points per game, which ranks 40th in the country. Against Clemson, QB AJ Long completed only 12 of 27 passes for 82 yards and 2 interceptions. WR Ashton Broyld caught 4 balls for 49 yards. RB Prince-Tyson Gulley carried the ball 18 times for 80 yards in the loss. The Orange offense is averaging only 20.5 points per game on the year, which ranks a miserable 112th in the country. The Orange will host their sixth game of the year; Syracuse is a lousy 1-4 at home this season.
Syracuse and NC State played for the first time in 15 years last year, and Syracuse won 24-10 at NC State. The Wolfpack have a decent offense this year, but their defense has made it impossible for this team to win a conference game so far this season. Syracuse isn’t a great scoring team, but they should be able to find some points at home against the Wolfpack. Meanwhile, the Orange defense will play hard in front of the home crowd. I’ll take the home team to win and cover on Saturday.
