The Line: Temple Owls +7 -- Over/Under:
Lincoln Financial Field and the Temple Owls play host to the #17 East Carolina Pirates in week ten action.
The East Carolina Pirates have a five game winning streak heading in to their road match up with Temple. Having said that the Pirates have not been all that impressive in their last three versus far inferior opponents opponents...or so we think. ECU comes in off of a 31-21 victory over visiting Connecticut as a 28 point favorite. This was a 21-21 game with around six minutes remaining before a 10-0 spurt put this in the win column. ECU had zero problem moving the chains with 580 yards with Shane Carden hitting 38-64 for 445 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception. Justin Hardy was the receiver of choice with 14 catches for 186 yards with Cam Worthy grabbing seven balls for 138 yards. Breon Allen added 65 yards and a pair of TD's on the ground as the Pirates moved the ball with ease but also allowed a struggling UConn passing attack to throw for over 300 yards.
The Temple Owls are struggling to get their offense cranked up with East Carolina scheduled to visit the City of Brotherly Love Saturday. Nothing went favorably for the Owls in a 31-10 loss at Central Florida in week nine with the special teams the lone bright spot with a blocked punt returned six yards by Samuel Benjamin for a touchdown. The game was really a mismatch with the Knights holding a hefty 466-182 yardage advantage with a 4-2 edge in turnovers. Temple was outmanned in the trenches on both sides of the ball with a scant 32 rushing yards which meant quarterback PJ Walker was the only hope of moving the chains and finding the endzone. That didn't work out with Walker connecting on 15-26 for 111 yards with a touchdown and a pair of interceptions with Connor Reilly not having any better luck with a 4-9 effort for 25 yards and a pick.
The under is 4-0 in Pirates last 4 road games with East Carolina going 2-10 ATS in their last 12 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game and are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game. For Temple the over is 5-0 in Owls last 5 games after accumulating less than 275 total yards in their previous gameand is 4-0 in Owls last 4 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game. The Owls are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game. The Owls have struggled lately and they could rebound at home against a ranked East Carolina squad who quite honestly have not impressed me in the least lately and should not be ranked in my view. Seems like put up or shut up time...
