The Duke Blue Devils and the Temple Owls take the field in the Independence Bowl in Thursday college football.
The Temple Owls enjoyed another strong season at 8-4 with their only conference loss coming to Central Florida. Temple totaled around 421 yards a game with a top 50 passing attack leading to 35.6 points. The always stingy Owls defense allowed 357 yards and 24.7 points with opponents averaging just 166 passing yards.
Temple quarterback Anthony Russo completed 57.9% of his throws for 2,335 yards with 13 scores and 13 interceptions. Ventrell Bryant and Branden Mack were the receivers of choice with a combined 99 receptions for over 1,200 yards.
The Owls rushing attack revolved around workhorse Ryquell Armstead who carried the ball 210 times for almost 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns. Temple was productive on the ground when Armstead ran the ball but below average otherwise.
The Duke Blue Devils dropped back to back games to end the regular season and finish 7-5. Duke did nothing out of the ordinary offensively at 393 yards and 27 points while allowing 419 yards and 27 points.
Daniel Jones spearheaded the Blue Devils passing game, completing 59% of his throws for 2,251 yards with 17 touchdowns and seven picks. TJ Rahming was the top Duke receiver with 571 yards on 63 receptions with Johnathan Lloyd recording 46 catches for 557 yards.
Deon Jackson paced the Blue Devils on the ground with 806 yards on 151 touches with Brittain Brown being the only other runner of significance with 350 yards on 75 totes.
