The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles travel to Sun Bowl Stadium to take the field with the Texas El Paso Miners.
The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles still have a Bowl appearance in their sight when they visit Texas El Paso in week ten action. The Golden Eagles might be thinking postseason but they need to string the wins beginning now after dropping three of four following a 31-20 loss to visiting Louisiana Tech. USM led 7-3 at the half but their defense struggled over the final 30 minutes. La Tech totaled most of their 453 yards in the second half and the Golden Eagles fell off the pace with 351 yards with no ground game to support a decent passing attack. Cole Weeks completed 28-45 for 338 yards with a 16 yard scoring strike to Michael Thomas but a pair of interceptions ruined an otherwise great performance.
The Texas El Paso Miners host Southern Mississippi in week ten looking for win number three in a row after their best performance of the season in a 34-0 victory at Texas-San Antonio Saturday. This was a complete effort on both sides of the ball with the Roadrunners held to a mere 70 yards and a pair of turnovers including a 19 yard pick six by Jimmy Musgrave. The Miners totaled 351 yards with over 39 minutes in time of possession with a bit of balance. Jameill Showers connected on 12-18 for 191 yards with 40 yard and 75 yard touchdowns to Aaron Jones and Jaquan White respectively. Jones paced the rushing attack as well with 86 yards on 21 carries with a 24 yard scoring run. This wasn't an explosive offensive effort but the defense gave the O nice field position.
The under is 5-0 in Golden Eagles last 5 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game with the over going 5-1 in Golden Eagles last 6 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Golden Eagles are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. loss. For Texas El Paso the under is 3-0-1 in Miners last 4 games following a SU win of more than 20 points while the Miners are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games. The under is 3-0-1 in Miners last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game. Both teams have shown improvement from previous seasons but I like what I have seen from Texas El Paso a bit more...
