The Texas-San San Antonio Roadrunners travel to M.M. Roberts Stadium to battle the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
The Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners weren’t give much thought in the preseason because of a sizeable loss of talent but the team has shown some spunk. The Roadrunners gave a solid Louisiana Tech all they could handle in a 34-31 loss in week six proving they shouldn’t be overlooked. La Tech won it with a 32 yard field goal with ten seconds left even though the numbers say this shouldn’t have been that close. The Bulldogs held a 444-300 edge in yardage with both teams turning the ball over twice. UTSA went nowhere on the ground and relied on the passing of Dalton Sturm who connected on 18-27 for 227 yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions. JaBryce Taylor and David Morgan II were the only UTSA receivers of note with 184 yards in receptions with two TD’s apiece.
I have said the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles are improved but I had too much confidence in them when Marshall thrashed them 31-10 in week six that evened their record at 3-3. This was just a 17-10 game at the half before the Thundering Herd put up zeros the rest of the way and scored on a fumble return. Southern Miss outgained Marshall 439-277 but gave the ball away a ridiculous five times. Quarterback Nick Mullens gave USM some nice yardage with 314 yards on 29-58 with a touchdown and a pick with Michael Thomas snagging seven balls for 109 yards and a score while Casey Martin came up with nine catches for 85 yards. Jalen Richard gave the Golden Eagles decent gains on the ground with 87 yards on 16 totes but USM passed more often then not.
The Roadrunners are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game and the over is 4-1 in Roadrunners last 5 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game while the under is 7-2 in Roadrunners last 9 games following a ATS win. The over is 4-0 in Golden Eagles last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game and the
Golden Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a SU loss of more than 20 points while the under is 4-0 in Golden Eagles last 4 games in October. The Roadrunners are a worry but if Southern Miss holds on to the ball I’ll back them…
