The Toledo Rockets begin the college football season with a visit from the VMI Keydets.

The VMI Keydets finished 0-11 in 2017 and are currently mired in a 17 game losing streak. VMI has a decent 14 starters coming back but the team faces an uphill battle after being outscored 37-8.

Reece Udinski is back at quarterback for the Keydets after throwing for 432 yards but he will be pressed by freshman Syour Fludd. Kris Thornton is the Keydets top receiver with 33 catches for 340 yards in 2017 while Alex keys will get the bulk of the carries in the ground game.

The Toledo Rockets were 11-3 in 2017 and won the MAC championship while outscoring the opposition 36-26. Toledo loses quarterback Logan Woodside and the twosome of Eli Peters and Mitchell Gaudagni are competing for the starting job. Whoever wins the job will have a prolific receiving corps to throw to with Diontae Johnson, Jon’Vea Johnson and Cody Thompson giving the Rockets three #1 targets.

Toledo loses top running back Terry Swanson but the duo of Art Thompkins and Shakif Seymour combined for over 1,300 yards in 2017 so the ground game has punch. Three starters are back along the offensive line but the unit needs bodies. The Toledo defense was average in 2017 and a repeat of that effort is okay if a quarterback emerges.

Over is 6-1 in VMI last 7 games in September and over is 5-1 in VMI last 6 non-conference games and over is 5-1 in VMI last 6 games overall. Over is 5-1 in Toledo last 6 games in September and Toledo are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and Toledo are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games in September.

Toledo decides how big the margin of victory will be so this could hover right around the number…

Pick:
Toledo -45

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
