The Line: Troy Trojans -3 -- Over/Under:
The South Alabama Jaguars shoot for their third win when they visit the Troy Trojans.
The South Alabama Jaguars have yet to establish an identity yet because of their schedule. A 63-13 loss to North Carolina State did not tell us a thing except the Wolfpack were too much and their record is now 2-2. Defense was a strength for USA in 2014 but not so much against NC State who racked up 42 first half points and totaled almost 600 yards. On the lip side the Jaguars logged 258 yards and gave the ball away three times with less then 25 minutes of possession. A lack of a viable run game hurt USA with Tyreis Thomas and his 38 yards the extent of the ground game. Cody Clements struggled to get South Alabama going through the air with 201 yards with a touchdown and a pair of interceptions on 14-33. DJ Vinson and Chris Lewis combined for 112 yards in receptions to lead the USA receivers.
The Troy Trojans dropped to 1-3 following a 28-3 loss at Wisconsin although this wasn’t a poor performance considering this would have been a 56-3 game in past seasons. It’s still early but that is my way of saying this team has shown some improvement. The Badgers still had no problem with a 401-255 edge in yards but the Trojans displayed more defense then they have in recent years. The problem on this day was moving the chains and Brandon Silvers 174 yards on 23-34 wasn’t enough to stretch the field and worry Wisconsin. The Trojans rushing attack didn’t cause worries either with Brandon Burks 62 yards on 19 carries not loosening up the Badgers front seven.
The Jaguars are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 conference games and are 0-9 ATS in their last 9 games after allowing more than 450 total yards in their previous game while the over is 6-0 in Jaguars last 6 games overall. The Trojans are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. loss while the over is 4-1 in Trojans last 5 games following a bye week. I think an extra week of preparation gives Troy a huge advantage here and I’ll lay the small chalk…
