The Buffalo Bulls clash with the Troy Trojans in the Dollar General Bowl.
The Buffalo Bulls looked like the best team in the MAC for the majority of the season before squandering a lead and losing in the conference championship game to Northern Illinois. Buffalo averaged 418 yards and 34.8 points with a top 50 running game that totaled 196 yards.
The Bulls defense was a bit under the radar with just 349 yards and 24.7 points allowed with the #19 passing D giving up 185 yards per contest.
Buffalo quarterback Tyree Jackson received plenty of notoriety as he completed 55.1% of his passes for 2,957 yards with 27 touchdowns and eleven interceptions. Anthony Johnson topped the Bulls receivers with 52 catches for 944 yards and eleven scores followed by KJ Osborne with 835 yards on 49 receptions and six TD’s.
The UB rushing attack was a two headed game with the explosive Jaret Jackson logging 911 yards on 159 carries while Kevin Marks was more of a grind it out runner with 805 yards on 170 touches.
The Troy Trojans missed out on the Sun Belt championship game with a 21-10 defeat at Appalachian State to end the regular season. Troy was not an explosive offense with 385 yards and 29.8 points but a strong defense more then held their own with whatever scoring they received. The Trojans gave up only 346 yards and 21.2 points.
Troy quarterback Kaleb Barker went down with an injury after throwing for 1,013 yards with Sawyer Smith connecting on 61.1% of his throws for 1,349 yards with ten touchdowns and six picks. Damion Willis was Troy’s stretch the field receiver with 775 yards on 43 receptions and eight scores while Deondre Douglas and Sidney Davis combined 774 yards on 83 receptions. BJ Smith was the Trojans workhorse on the ground with 1,090 yards on 198 touches with 12 trips to the end zone.
