The Line: Troy Trojans -5 -- Over/Under: 56
The Louisiana Monroe Warhawks will travel to Veterans Memorial Stadium (AL) to take on the Troy Trojans in College Football action this Saturday afternoon.
The Louisiana Monroe Warhawks couldn’t hold on to a 8 point 4th quarter lead and dropped to 1-7 (0-4 Sun Belt) on the season after being defeated 30-24 by the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns this past Saturday. The Warhawks had a strong defensive effort as they held the Ragin’ Cajuns to just 261 yards of total offense however committed two turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for Louisiana Monroe was QB Garrett Smith who completed 16 of 35 passes for 265 yards and 3 TD. On the season, the Warhawks have been led by QB Garrett Smith who has 15 TD and 9 INT on the season while averaging 219.5 passing yards per game. WR Ajalen Holley (6.7 rec/games, 84.1 yards/game, 4 TD), WR Marcus Green (3.6 rec/games, 41.6 yards/game, 3 TD) and WR Rashon Ceaser (8.7 rec/games, 90.7 yards/games, 2 TD) have been the main receiving threats for Louisiana Monroe. The Warhawks don’t have much of a rushing attack as they are averaging just 96.00 rushing yards per game and are led by Kaylon Watson who is averaging just 29.88 yards per game. Defensively, Louisiana Monroe is currently allowing 35.8 ppg on 433.5 yards per game (193.4 passing, 240.1 rushing). The Warhawks have only forced 8 turnovers on the season and currently have a minus-6 turnover margin. Leading the way for Louisiana Monroe defense has been LB Hunter Kissinger (68 tackles, 1.5 sacks) and DL Ben Banogu (26 tackles, 3.0 sacks).
The Troy Trojans almost pulled off a major upset but ended up losing 44-41 in triple OT to the Appalachian State Mountaineers and dropped to 2-6 (1-3 Sun Belt) on the season. Troy outgained Appalachian State by a 450-432 margin but committed two turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for Troy was WR who had 83 yards and a TD on 9 receptions. On the season, Troy is averaging 26.5 ppg on 345.8 yards per game (220.3 passing, 125.5 rushing). Leading the way for the Trojans offense is RB Brandon Burks who has 6 TD’s on the season and is averaging 84.50 rushing yards per game. QB Brandon Silvers is completing 63.3% of his passes and has 10 TD and 5 INT while averaging 187.7 passing yards per game. WR Teddy Ruben is the main threat for the Trojans as he had 6 TD’s on the season and is averaging 5.3 receptions and 68.9 yards per game. Defensively, Troy is allowing their opponents to average 29.0 ppg on 385.0 yards per game (184.8 passing, 200.2 rushing). Troy has only been able to force 6 turnovers on the season and currently has a turnover margin of minus-8. Leading the way for the Trojan defense has been DL Rashad Dillard (20 tackles, 4.0 sacks) and LB William Lloyd (56 tackles, 1.5 sacks).
The Warhawks are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 games in November and 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 road games. The Trojans are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a S.U. loss.
It will be interesting to see how Troy comes out for this matchup after letting a close one get away against Appalachian State. Louisiana Monroe has played teams close as of late as 3 of their last 4 games have been within 10 points. Louisiana Monroe has a good player in QB Garrett Smith but I don’t think the Warhawks defense will be able to stop the rushing attack of the Trojans. I think Troy will do enough to contain Garrett Smith and pulls away in the 2nd half to cover this spread. Take Troy to cover.
