The Line: Tulane Green Wave +9.5 -- Over/Under: 47
The Duke Blue Devils open the season at Yulman Stadium against the Tulane Green Wave.
The Duke Blue Devils are known for basketball but they were a none too shabby 9-4 in 2014 with a Bowl loss to Arizona State. The Blue Devils outscored opponents 32-22 but have voids to fill to match these numbers. Quarterback Anthony Boone takes 2,700 yards and 19 TD’s to graduation leaving Thomas Sirk and his 14 throws as the main man although he averaged five yards per carry on 48 attempts. Shaquille Powell (134-618) will join him in the backfield but will Jela Duncan? The receiving corps loses Jamison Crowder and over 1,000 receiving yards but Braxton Deaver is back after missing 2014 with Max McCaffrey and Johnell Barnes expected to step up. Both lines lost some players which is also an issue that needs attention.
The Tulane Green Wave will be looking to improve upon a dismal 2014 where they finished 3-9 and struggled to find the end zone at just 16 points. The numbers should improve with returning experience with quarterback Tanner Lee throwing for 1,962 yards with 12 TD’s and 14 INT’s. Teddy Veal is the top receiver back with 40 catches for 381 yards but the Green Wave tended to spread the ball around. Tulane was most dangerous on the ground with Sherman Badie (121-688), Lazedrick Thompson (109-533) and Dontrell Hilliard giving the team three capable options that has an experienced line to run behind in 2015. The defense has a loaded front seven and if a few holes in the secondary are filled the defense will be a strength.
The Blue Devils are 8-0 ATS in their last 8 games on fieldturf and are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games while the under is 8-2 in Blue Devils last 10 road games. The under is 4-0 in Green Wave last 4 home games and the over is 4-0 in Green Wave last 4 vs. ACC while the under is 5-0 in Green Wave last 5 games on fieldturf. Most belief the Blue Devils win by several TD’s but for now I’ll take the points but check back…
