The Line: Houston Cougars +14 -- Over/Under:
The Tulane Green Wave look to slowdown the red hot Houston Cougars when they visit in week seven.
The Houston Cougars are doing nothing but winning in the early going and Southern Methodist did not stop them in a 49-28 decision. The Cougars totaled 457 yards and had the ability to run and throw effectively while the Mustangs logged nearly 400 yards but lost three fumbles. UH was led by dual threat quarterback Greg Ward Jr. who completed 16-18 throws for 243 yards while running for 84 yards on 14 carries and four touchdowns. Demarcus Ayers paced the Cougars receivers with seven receptions for 91 yards while Ryan Jackson and Kenneth Farrow combined for 21 totes on 21 totes with Farrow scoring three times.
The Tulane Green Wave had high hopes of slowing surging Temple on the road but neither side of the ball came up big in a 49-10 defeat. The Owls mustered 345 yards and allowed 110 yards and recorded a pick six. The Green Wave had zero rushing with Rob Kelley and Dontrell Hilliard combining 52 yards on 12 carries. Tulane needed a big game in the air from quarterback Tanner Lee but he couldn’t get the ball downfield with a 16-29 effort turning in to 95 yards with a touchdown and a pair of interceptions including a pick six. Teddy Veal led Tulane with six receptions for 43 yards and a score but the Green wave only had eight first downs and couldn’t get any consistency in moving the chains.
The Cougars are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games on fieldturf and are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a losing home record while going 6-1 ATS in their last 7 Friday games. The Green Wave are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 Friday games and the under is 7-0 in Green Wave last 7 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game while the over is 4-0 in Green Wave last 4 games overall. The Cougars are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Tulane and are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 meetings while the favorite is 10-1 ATS in their last 11 meetings. I’m banking on Houston to score and cover with a little help from their defense…
