The Alabama State Hornets and the UAB Blazers will meet up on the college football gridiron on Thursday.

The Hornets nearly banged out a winning season in 2017, but took a step back last year with a 4-7 mark. Alabama State went 3-4 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, finishing in fourth place in the East Division.

Alabama State will be led by second-year head coach Donald Hill-Eley at the helm this season, and he’ll try to show some improvement in 2019. It’ll be something of a tall task in a crowded conference, however.

As for the Blazers, they’re coming out of a successful campaign in 2018, going 11-3 overall and 7-1 in Conference USA play. UAB won the conference championship over Middle Tennessee 27-25 and went on to the Boca Raton Bowl, where they defeated Northern Illinois. It was the first bowl win in the history of the program, so things are certainly looking up for the Blazers. They’ll have some stout competition in the conference this year however, so another championship is far from assured.

The under is 5-1 in the Hornets’ last six road games and 5-1 in their last six non-conference games. The under is also 5-1 in Alabama State’s last six games overall.

Meanwhile, the Blazers are 4-0 ATS in their last four Thursday games and the over is 5-1 in their last six Thursday games. The over is 5-1 in UAB’s last six games overall as well.

UAB is riding high after their bowl game victory, but they’ll have to contend with a couple of strong conference squads in North Texas and Southern Miss this year. For now however, UAB should come out of the gate strong and roll here. I’m going with the Blazers.

Pick:
UAB Blazers -43.5
