The Arkansas State Red Wolves and the UNLV Rebels will meet up on the college football circuit Saturday.
Arkansas State posted a loss in their opener against the SMU Mustangs, falling 37-30. The Red Wolves were down 16-9 at halftime in that one and couldn’t gain any traction the rest of the way.
The Wolves’ Logan Bonner logged four touchdowns and 324 yards with one pick in the opener, while Marcel Murray had 77 yards on 17 carries. Omar Bayless added 132 yards on 10 receptions with a whopping four touchdowns.
As for UNLV, they managed a win in their opener, taking out the Southern Utah Thunderbirds 56-23. The Rebels scored 28 points in the second quarter there, and added 21 more in the third.
Charles Williams led a nice rush game for the Rebels in the opening-week win, tallying 143 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries. Armani Rogers also had a great rushing day with his 114 yards and two scores.
The Red Wolves are 4-1 ATS in their last five on turf and 1-4 ATS in their last five versus the MWC. Arkansas State is 1-7 ATS in their last eight non-conference games and 1-5 ATS in the last six in September.
Meanwhile, the Rebels are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games in September and 4-1 ATS in their last five non-conference games. UNLV is 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS win and 1-4 ATS in their last fiver after a straight up win.
The Red Wolves’ offense was pretty solid in the opener loss, but SMU matched them punch for punch and some solid performances ended up in vain.
UNLV had some impressive numbers as well in their Week 1 win, but considering the entire second half was garbage time and the Thunderbirds couldn’t stop the rush at all, it makes sense. This is a pretty interesting matchup and a true coin-flip game. I’m staying away but leaning toward the at-home Rebels.
