The Line: Southern Cal Trojans -11 -- Over/Under: 66
The USC Trojans and the Arizona State Sun Devils face off on Saturday at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for a Pac-12 matchup.
The USC Trojans are 3-1 this season but at 20thranked ahead in the polls, they are still being punished severely for their loss to Boston College. The USC offense is averaging 32.8 points per game and are led by QB Cody Kessler who has completed 72 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns without an interception. Javorius Allen is averaging 5.4 yards per carry with two touchdowns with 15 receptions and Justin Davis has two rushing touchdowns. Nelson Agholor has 26 catches and three touchdowns and Juju Smith has 14 catches. The USC defense is one of the best in the nation allowing 17.5 points per game with seven interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and six sacks. Leonard Williams has played like a top 5 NFL draft pick with 27 tackles, two sacks, and an interception, Gerald Bowman has 26 tackles as does Hayes Pullard. USC has a ton of talent up and down the roster it is just a matter of coaching up the raw talent and having them all play as a team.
The Arizona State Sun Devils were off to a perfect 3-0 start but last week they made a few mistakes and paid for all of them as it turned into a blow out loss to UCLA. The Arizona State offense is averaging 42 points per game but QB Taylor Kelly is out for this one and without him last week it didn’t look the same with Mike Bercovici getting the start despite his 60 percent completion percentage. D.J. Foster is averaging 8.6 yards per carry with five touchdowns to lead the ground attack and he also has 16 receptions. Jaleen Strong is the Sun Devils leading receiver with 31 catches and two touchdowns. The ASU defense is allowing 30.8 points per game but that number is a little inflated due to the 62 scored by UCLA. Damarious Randall has 38 tackles, Jordan Simone has 25 tackles and an interception, and Antonio Longino has 24 tackles. Arizona State will need to dig deep to put last week behind them.
USC is 6-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, and 7-2 against the spread in their last nine Pac-12 games. Arizona State is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven Pac-12 games, 1-5 against the spread in their last six games, and 0-3-1 against the spread following a double-digit home loss. Arizona State has covered the point spread in five of their last six meetings with USC.
The total is set at 66 ad after these two combined for 103 points in their last meeting I see this one staying under and that is my free pick. My stronger pick is on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
