CFB | Stanford Cardinal (1-1) at Southern Cal Trojans (2-0)

The USC Trojans and the Stanford Cardinal face off on Saturday in a matchup of Pac-12 Championship hopefuls.

The USC Trojans are off to a 2-0 start but the wins have come against soft competition. USC’s offense has been lighting up the scoreboard averaging 57 points and 623 yards per game. USC QB Cody Kessler has completed 78.9 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns. The USC running game is anchored by Ronald Jones II who is averaging 12.1 yards per carry and he has scored two touchdowns and Tre Madden has rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns and JuJu Smith-Schuster is the Trojans leading receiver with 14 catches and three touchdowns. The USC defense is allowing just 7.5 points and 356 yards per game with 2 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and two interceptions. Cameron Smith leads the Trojans in tackles with 13, Matt Lopes has 11, and Su’a Cravens has 8. USC has had an easy go of it so far and they did beat Stanford last year on the road.

The Stanford Cardinal bounced back from their opening upset loss at Northwestern by beatingUCF in week two. The Stanford offense is averaging 18.5 points and 365.5 yards per game. Cardinal QB Kevin Hogan is a veteran who is completing 57.8 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and an interception. Christian McCaffrey leads Stanford in rushing with 124 yards and receptions with nine with one going for a touchdown and Devon Cajuste and Austin Hooper each have six catches. The Stanford defense is allowing 11.5 points and 255.5 yards with two sacks, one fumble recovery, and one interception. Ben Martinez is Stanford’s leading tackler with 22, Kevin Anderson has 15 tackles and Peter Kalambayi has 15 tackles. Stanford is still alive in the Pac-12 as their loss to Northwestern doesn’t figure in the conference standings.

USC is 10-4 against the spread in their last 14 home games, 1-4 against the spread following a win, and 2-5 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread. Stanford is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, 2-6 against the spread following a win, and 2-6 against the spread in their last eight road games. Stanford has covered the point spread in four of their last five games at USC.

With the total set at 51.5 I see this one going over the total. My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
