The Line: Utah State Aggies +6 -- Over/Under: 46.5
The San Diego State Aztecs face the Utah State Aggies with the MWC college football crown still up for grabs.
Following a 42-28 loss to South Alabama which proved anything can happen in college football, the San Diego State Aztecs have won three in a row with just 13 points allowed. The Aztecs come off a 42-3 victory versus visiting San Jose State as a 23 point favorite. SDSU owned the battle for yards 460-209 behind their trademark rushing attack. Aztecs quarterback Christian Chapman went 13-18 for 167 yards and a touchdown and interception with Rashaad Penny and David Wells logging two catches each for 126 yards. San Diego State stuck with their overpowering rushing attack that saw Donnel Pumphrey and Penny combine 240 yards with five TD’s on 33 carries.
The Utah State Aggies have been one of the top teams in the Mountain West for years but this doesn’t seem to be one of those years unless the college football Gods smile down on them. The Aggies had dropped three in a row before getting quality efforts on both sides of the ball in a 38-20 victory versus visiting Fresno State as a 20.5 point favorite. USU led in yardage 396-319 and returned a blocked punt for a score. Utah State quarterback Kent Myers connected on 17-29 for 189 yards and three touchdowns with leading receiver Ron’Quavion Tarver catching three balls for 54 yards an a TD. The Aggies ground game saw Tonny Lindsey grind out 90 yards on 23 carries with Myers adding 66 yards on eight touches.
San Diego State are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a losing home record and San Diego State are 9-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record. While San Diego State are 5-1-2 ATS in their last 8 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game. Utah State are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game and Utah State are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win while the over is 8-1 in Aggies last 9 games in October.
Utah State needs a superior effort from their defense because if the Aztecs get a lead they’ll be tough to catch with that rushing attack which makes the difference to me…
