The San Jose State Spartans will travel to Romney Stadium to take on the Utah State Aggies this upcoming Saturday afternoon in College Football action.

The San Jose State Spartans dropped to 1-8 (1-4 MW) on the season after being defeated by the Wyoming Cowboys, 24-9, this past Saturday. San Jose State had trouble generating offense on the road agianst Wyoming’s tough defense and couldn’t fight back after Wyoming took a 17-3 lead with 8:41 left in the 3rd quarter. San Jose State was outgained by Wyoming by a 475-244 margin however, did win the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin. Leading the way for the Spartans was QB Josh Love who completed 19 of 32 passes for 173 yards and a TD. On the season, San Jose State is averaging 22.9 ppg on 322.4 total yards per game (256.7 passing yds/g; 65.8 rushing yds/g). Defensively, San Jose State is allowing their opponents to average 36.1 ppg on 462.1 total yards per game (251.8 passing yds/g; 210.3 rushing yds/g).

The Utah State Aggies won their 8th straight game and improved to 8-1 (5-0 MW) on the season after defeating the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, 56-17, this past Saturday. Utah State had no trouble putting up points on the Hawaii defense and easily cruised to victory after taking a 28-3 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. Utah State outgained Hawaii by a 603-390 margin and also won the turnover battle by a 2-1 margin. Leading the way for the Aggies was Darwin Thompson who had 141 rushing yards and 3 TD’s on just 13 carries. On the season, Utah State is averaging 50.1 ppg on 485.7 total yards per game (269.3 passing yds/g; 216.3 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Utah State has been led by QB Jordan Love who has completed 65.1% of his passes for 19 TD & 4 INT while averaging 242.8 passing yds/g. The top receivers for the Love and the Aggies have been Ron’quavion Tarver (4.7 rec/g; 50.8 yds/g; 6 TD), Jalen Greene (2.9 rec/g; 46.7 yds/g; 3 TD), and Aaren Vaughns (2.2 rec/g; 31.7 yds/g; 2 TD). Defensively, Utah State is holding their opponents to an average of 12.7 ppg on 356.3 total yards per game (213.3 passing yds/g; 143.0 rushing yds/g).

The Spartans are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 conference games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Aggies are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games and 9-2 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.

San Jose State is having another tough season, however, there are some positives to take from this season as they were competitive in losses at Oregon & San Diego State and have a decent passing attack led by Josh Love that ranks 44th in College Football. Utah State has been outstanding this season as after almost upsetting Michigan State on the road to kick off the season, the Aggies have done nothing but win led by a balanced offensive attack that ranks 33rd in the country in both passing & rushing. Utah State is going to put up some points, however, the Spartans have a bit more fight in them then we saw last season and as I think the Spartans passing attack will be able to put up some points, I think this is just too many points not to take. Take San Jose State and the points.

Pick:
San Jose State Spartans +29.5
