The Utah Utes and the USC Trojans face off on Saturday at Rice-Eccles Stadium for a Pac-12 college football matchup.
The Utah Utes are quietly cruising along to a one loss record and are still in contention for the Pac-12 Championship Game. It hasn’t always been pretty for Utah but they continue to get it done week after week. The Utah offense is averaging 37.8 points and 402.5 yards per game. QB Travis Wilson has completed 56.8 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns and no interceptions. Devonte Booker leads the Utes ground attack rushing for 742 yards and seven touchdowns and Kenneth Scott and Dres Anderson are Utah’s leading receivers with 22 and 19 receptions. The Utah defense allows 21.7 points per game and they have seven interceptions, 33 sacks, and four fumble recoveries. Jared Norris has 58 tackles, Nate Orchard has 39 tackles including 10.5 sacks, and Gioni Paul has 37 tackles. Utah as just played steady and consistent football and it has been a winning formula.
The USC Trojans are 5-2 so far this season and loaded with raw talent but dealing with an inept head Coach once again this season they may be their own toughest competition. USC’s offense is averaging 35.6 points per game and 462.7 yards by it is mainly a byproduct of their roster, not the game plan. QB Cody Kessler as completed 69.5 percent of his passes with 18 touchdowns and an interception. Javorious Allen leads the Trojans in rushing with 909 yards and eight touchdowns and he also has 24 receptions and Nelson Agholor is USC’s leading receiver with 48 catches and seven touchdowns. The Southern Cal defense allows 23.1 points and 404.7 yards per game with nine interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and 15 sacks. Hays Pullard has 53 tackles, Leonard Williams has 45 tackles including 4.5 sacks, and Gerald Bowman has 44 tackles. As good as USC has looked at times, at other times they simply look lost.
Utah is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games, 5-0 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 7-16 against the spread following a win. USC is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games, 4-1 against the spread in their last five pac-12 games, and 4-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
This should be a good one but Utah has been just more consistent and getting the extra practice between games they are my choice.
