The Houston Baptist Huskies and the UTEP Miners will match up on the college football circuit Saturday.
Houston Baptist is coming off a pretty dismal season in 2018, going just 1-10 overall and 0-9 in the Southland Conference. Needless to say, that left the Huskies in the basement of the standings.
This season, Houston Baptist will try to gain some traction under head coach Vic Shealy in his seventh season, joined by OC Zach Kittley and defensive coordinators Roger Henshaw and Jeff Mills.
Over on the UTEP side, they didn’t do much of anything last year either, going 1-11 overall and 1-7 in Conference USA play for a last-place finish (tie) in the West Division.
Miners head coach Dana Dimel will return for his second season, and he’ll be joined by OC Mike Canales and DC Mike Cox as the team tries to find some footing.
The over is 4-0 in the Miners’ last four games overall and they’re 1-7 ATS in their last eight home games. UTEP is also 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Not too many people have the Huskies finishing any higher than last place in the Southland Conference, and they’ll be hard pressed to even compete with teams like Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State, let alone top dogs like Nicholls and Central Arkansas.
UTEP is in something of the same boat, as they’re probably bound for the cellar in the West Division as well and won’t touch North Texas, Southern Miss or much of anyone else in the standings.
Still, UTEP is probably in control here; I’m taking the Miners but realistically not terribly interested in this game.
